Cherry is a rich
elegant hardwood that features rich red highlights that create a
distinct appearance. Cherry wood darkens with age naturally which
enhances warmth and has been a favorite of woodworkers for years.
A slightly hard and relatively light wood known for its tight graining
and elegant coloring. Color varies from almost white to light brown to
pinkish red. Lighter stains will show this variation, so please be aware
of this characteristic when choosing cherry. Cherry is very sensitive to
light and will darken over time with exposure to any light, especially
the sun. This darkening will happen with all cherry and even after it
has been finished. Understanding the aging process of cherry is
important before purchasing this beautiful wood. A slightly hard and

Knotty Cherry

Maple
a hard and
heavy wood known for its lighter color and tight graining (less distinct
grain). Color varies from almost white to medium brown. Maple has become
very popular and is chosen for it's tight grain and use with glazed
finishes.
Oaks are open-pored
and produce dramatic grain patterns, dark mineral streaks and very
small, pink pin knots. Oak is the most widely used hardwood.
Red Oak is a
very popular used wood species in cabinetry. It is known for its
distinctive open graining and attractive price. Oak lumber can vary from
almost white to brown to gray. These are normal variations in the color
of oak and should be expected. If you choose to use a lighter stain, you
will notice more variations.
Pine is a warm
softwood with swirling grain and random knots, purposely distressed to
give it a softened antique quality.
Hickory is used
mainly in country looks and its heavy grain pattern is great for a
rustic feel. The texture of hickory is open grained and used by
homeowners that desire dramatic wood characteristics. This is a
very hard, heavy wood known for its extremely bold and distinct open
graining and color variations. A single board of hickory lumber can have
several color variations from almost white to dark brown and black. Dark
mineral deposits are common. Extreme color variation is to be expected
when choosing hickory and this is what gives it such charm.
Knotty Alder a fine-grained hardwood that is smooth with a straight grain pattern
similar to cherry. Color varies from pale pinkish-brown to a light tan
or honey color. Most people choose knotty alder for its rugged
appearance. Knots will be random in size and distribution and will range
from tight sound knots to very rustic, split, and open knots.
