Quality Craftsmanship

Wood Types

We perform quality craftsmanship starting with high quality woods such as the ones listed below.  In addition, we offer many other species ranging from black walnut to zebra wood.  If you don't see what you are looking for, just ask us and we will be happy to get you a sample.

Cherry is a rich elegant hardwood that features rich red highlights that create a distinct appearance. Cherry wood darkens with age naturally which enhances warmth and has been a favorite of woodworkers for years.  A slightly hard and relatively light wood known for its tight graining and elegant coloring. Color varies from almost white to light brown to pinkish red. Lighter stains will show this variation, so please be aware of this characteristic when choosing cherry. Cherry is very sensitive to light and will darken over time with exposure to any light, especially the sun. This darkening will happen with all cherry and even after it has been finished. Understanding the aging process of cherry is important before purchasing this beautiful wood. A slightly hard and relatively light wood known for its tight graining and elegant coloring. Color varies from almost white to light.

Knotty Cherry this beautiful hardwood includes knots and checks and a true rustic look.

Maple a hard and heavy wood known for its lighter color and tight graining (less distinct grain). Color varies from almost white to medium brown. Maple has become very popular and is chosen for it's tight grain and use with glazed finishes.

Oaks are open-pored and produce dramatic grain patterns, dark mineral streaks and very small, pink pin knots. Oak is the most widely used hardwood.

Red Oak is a very popular used wood species in cabinetry. It is known for its distinctive open graining and attractive price. Oak lumber can vary from almost white to brown to gray. These are normal variations in the color of oak and should be expected. If you choose to use a lighter stain, you will notice more variations.

Pine is a warm softwood with swirling grain and random knots, purposely distressed to give it a softened antique quality.

Hickory is used mainly in country looks and its heavy grain pattern is great for a rustic feel. The texture of hickory is open grained and used by homeowners that desire dramatic wood characteristics.  This is a very hard, heavy wood known for its extremely bold and distinct open graining and color variations. A single board of hickory lumber can have several color variations from almost white to dark brown and black. Dark mineral deposits are common. Extreme color variation is to be expected when choosing hickory and this is what gives it such charm.

Knotty Alder a fine-grained hardwood that is smooth with a straight grain pattern similar to cherry. Color varies from pale pinkish-brown to a light tan or honey color. Most people choose knotty alder for its rugged appearance. Knots will be random in size and distribution and will range from tight sound knots to very rustic, split, and open knots.
